Firm founder Brian Kent has more than 15 years of legal experience. A nationally known advocate for victims’ rights and a survivor of clergy abuse himself, Brian Kent has dedicated his life to seeking justice for survivors of unthinkable abuse, assault and human trafficking, lending voice to the voiceless and holding powerful people and institutions to account. Prior to representing sexual abuse, assault and trafficking survivors, Brian was fighting for the rights of sexual assault victims as a prosecutor in the Sex Crimes Unit of the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office. At Laffey, Bucci & Kent, he leads a team made up of former prosecutors who devote their entire practice to representing victims of crime throughout the country.
Brian has taken on several high-profile cases, including representing survivors of Jerry Sandusky, priest abuse as well as Judge William Bradley – a case that resulted in Judge Bradley’s removal from the bench, disbarment and admission to the abuse as part of the settlement. His representation of women across the country against massage franchise chain Massage Envy led to a Buzzfeed investigation and article regarding the company’s practices in covering up sexual assaults at its franchise locations. Kent’s intervention ultimately resulted in the Massage Envy franchise chain making changes to its policies and procedures to prevent assaults in the future, as well as the implementation of a “safety team.” His representation of twenty-nine former students who were systematically abused and neglected at Miracle Meadows School in Salem, West Virginia led to a settlement of approximately $62,000,000 for those survivors.
He has served as an expert in sexual abuse and assault cases on several local and national news networks and programs, and trains institutions and individuals, including law enforcement, on sexual abuse, assault and trafficking prevention and investigation.
Brian has a Masters in Trial Advocacy from Temple University’s Beasley School of Law where he served as an adjunct professor teaching Trial Advocacy. Brian also has served as an adjunct professor teaching Advanced Trial Advocacy at Drexel University School of Law.
